Stapedectomy is a very successful surgical treatment for deafness that is caused by the medical condition Otosclerosis. Otosclerosis affects up to 2% of the population. It is often passed down “in the family” but can also occur spontaneously without any family history. Hearing loss is usually first noticed when those affected are in their twenties , but it can occur later in life.
This is a site specifically designed for people with a diagnosis or suspected diagnosis of otosclerosis. The site aims to answer some of the questions you may have about otosclerosis and outline the treatment options. Whilst every effort has been taken to ensure that all information in this site is correct we advise you to talk to your own doctor or specialist before taking any decisions about treatment.
